In 1828 Reverend Horatio Parsons became the first recorded tour guide at Niagara Falls.
As a minister of the Presbyterian church, he escorted a wedding party around the waterfalls
acting as a spiritual counselor, and tour guide. It was during these early years that the
honeymoon tradition began, when people dreamed of traveling to Niagara Falls, which at that
time was the furthest western frontier outpost in the USA.

The parsonage, the
Lavinia Porter Manse, circa 1847,  is the oldest establishment at
Niagara that may boast activities related to the
honeymoon tradition at Niagara Falls.

The Lavinia Porter Manse has held a leading role in the development of Christian Faith in
Niagara Falls, the Greater Niagara Frontier, New York, and throughout the world. Having been
the ecumenical center for inter denominational meetings, mediation, and coordination of local
activities,  the prominence of activity related to development of Niagara focused on united
efforts of many. It is recorded that there was never any other conversation than a serious
conversation carried out in the Pastors' Study, where many serious decisions were decided
according to Christian ethics, relating to city and business matters.   (
recorded by Marjorie Williams, City
Historian
)

Spiritual Retreat, accommodations, weddings, art expositions,
musical recitals,  seminars, meetings and party get-togethers may
be scheduled at the Manse
.

The Lavinia Porter Manse today is dedicated to the Christian community at
Niagara, as a focal point for local and international endeavours to create a
positive, moving force to promote good will through expression of Christian love.

To reserve the Manse for specified functions please contact the caretaker.
